Another parasite that commonly affect dogs and cats in Sydney are the Brown Dog Tick and the deadly Australian Paralysis Tick.
Symptoms vary from patient to patient but usually present as progressive paralysis. Some animals, especially cats, may become distressed, anxious and confused. Eventually the animal is unable to breathe as the lungs develop congestion and chest muscles become paralysed. Once animals are fully paralysed, the chances of saving them are greatly reduced. The anti-tick serum is very effective if given early in the course of the condition. For the best chance of survival we recommend you seek early veterinary treatment.
